Marbreries de la Seine Launches M Éditions with Its first collection designed by Francesco Balzano
Marbreries de la Seine is embarking on a new chapter in its history with M Éditions. With their expertise and experience in high-end design, they will now be producing, manufacturing and distributing furniture by emerging designers. These designers will have carte blanche to devise collections in which stone is the primary material. Through three exhibitions per year, M Éditions will showcase exclusive collections of five pieces by various designers, whose avant-garde vision of stone will push technical limits and revitalize the Marbreries’ savoir-faire. Whether meant for everyday, experimental, or whimsical purposes, these collections of furniture and objects produced and distributed by M Éditions will celebrate fine stone and showcase new talents.
This autumn, Marbreries de la Seine opened its first Parisian location. This one-of-a-kind space, both a showroom and exhibit space, showcases the Marbreries’ expertise, explores its astonishing range of products, and allows visitors to discover M Éditions furniture. The interior design was entrusted to Francesco Balzano, who conceived an elegant, minimal, and welcoming travertine setting for this space spanning over 200 square meters.
The center of the space is dominated by a kind of world map serving as a library of materials, where samples of the company’s finest varieties of colorful stones and marbles are displayed. The evolving, free-form exhibition space allows to reinterpret stone through the collections designed by M Éditions.
Francesco Balzano’s Dolce collection
Having founded his own studio in 2018, Francesco Balzano designed his first M Éditions collection. The spare style of his creations interplays with fine materials and the demands of design. His creative language conveys timelessness, disavowing the superfluous in favor of a sophistication that elevates purity and simplicity.
For M Éditions, he designed the Dolce collection, a reference to dolce vita, and inspired by Italian architectural style. For this collection, Francesco Balzano chose a colorful, highly textured marble, the Quatre Saisons Printemps from the French Pyrénées. The stunning blend of colors, ranging from pastel to deep green, is reminiscent of the sumptuous flavors of Italian gelato. It emerges from the dialogue between the power of the stone and the tactile sensuality of the design, from the furniture’s soft curves and contours that assert their presence.
The Dolce collection comprises five magnificent pieces: dining room table, coffee table, side table, pedestal table, and stool. Here, Francesco Balzano pays tribute to stone, each piece revealing marble’s uniqueness.
