Mill 13 — a House located in the Historical Village of Retranchement by AM Designs
Mill 13 is a house situated close to the famous windmill of Retranchement. The corn and hulling mill has been on this site since 1643. The historical village of Retranchement, in the Netherlands, nearby the Belgian border, is located alongside a former fortification line that became a cultural-historical monument. Its protecting walls are now part of a natural reserve, accessible through hiking trails.
AM Designs renovated the house with the aim of preserving its authenticity by focusing on the use of pure lines. The main goal was to connect the architecture with its surrounding environment and to increase the natural light coming inside the house, creating a feeling of openness. The exterior design has been inspired by an enriching journey to Japan, having tranquility and balance as key aspects for the garden.
