Uncovering Shanghai-Born Designer Ziggy Chen SS18 Collection
An antique market is a mysterious place filled with magical objects. You may find an antique chair, vintage clothing or a painting from a bygone era, they come from different domains and timelines, possessing countless stories and memories within. For various reasons, they are gathered to these antique markets from all over the world. These objects, which seemingly have no correlation with each other, create a whole new dynamic, when placed and decorated together, a sort of chaotic beauty.
The Spring Summer 2018 collection inherits the usual hallmark of the Ziggy Chen spirit, fusing the idea of conflict and contradiction, creating a unique contrasting aesthetic.
To put it in plain words, it combines elements from western and eastern worlds, new and old, elegance and roughness. Based upon this essence, using old paintings and vintage fabrics as inspirations ⏤ which Ziggy Chen himself discovered while travelling around the globe ⏤ turning them into various prints and patterns, deconstructing and splicing unknown symbols, resulting in a kind of mysterious atmosphere, like an antique market, secretly ordered underneath the disarray.
The new collection adopts earth tones from the previous season, while adding brighter colors for the first time since the brand was established, including brick red and light army green. Pure black would be hard to sight in this collection, as most of the fabrics are weaved with more than two different yarns. The color of the fabrics slightly changes when exposed under various lights, and will age differently as time passes. Those unique fabrics are developed in factories located in Japan and Italy, created exclusively for Ziggy Chen’s signature style and silhouette.
