Meriwee by Templeton Architecture
Retaining the optimistic façade and the generosity of the front rooms, Templeton have renovated and added to the simple form of this original, Art Deco dwelling. The concept is driven by the format, repetition and tactile quality of the bricks, which also offers unique, decorative design possibilities.
Pale, handmade brick were selected for the two storey extension, which provides a textual difference from the original stucco, while referencing the Art Deco material palette. A ‘solider course’ wraps around the façade and flows inside parts of the interior, tying the volumes together. The rigorous application of the brick pattern, the impressive cantilever, large glass openings, enclosed balcony and independent form of the external fireplace redefine the dwelling as a contemporary entity with timeless appeal.
